Madoff – Who Else Has Been Hit by a Madoff Bombshell?

Have you been affected by what is probably the biggest fund management fraud ever perpetrated? Are you one of the thousands who have seen your investments crash from millions to mud? The idea for this article came after I read in the Sunday Times (21st December) the plight of Alexander Penney, and her fear of falling from Lady to bag lady due to the losses she would seem to have had as direct result of Bernard Madoff’s arrest on suspected fraud of the grandest scale.

Normally, I don’t suppose I would have paid much attention to her plight, and the plight of probably millions of others in the same boat, but in the same issue of the Sunday Times, one of the front page headlines read ‘Buy-To-Let Fraud Hits Thousands’.

On page eight of the same Sunday Times was a further full page on the story, including some pretty good photos of the villain of the piece, and the Couple who he had tried to silence, in their roles as very effective whistle-blowers on his operation.

Now what made that article gel with Alexander’s, was that this couple, like her, had lost everything due to this action, and the couple were none other than my wife and me! OK, our losses were maybe a mere bagatelle compared to what some individuals (and even corporations and some Banks) had lost because of Madoff, but they still represented money that had been grafted for as result of many years in corporate life.

We had also been hit by a second double whammy – as if losing $5 million worth of property was not bad enough – as whistle blowers we had also been hit by a High Court Writ by this man for Defamation and Libel for massive sums, plus damages, as we had written an article way back in 2006 in an attempt to warn others (and the banks) to steer clear. However, by publishing this article, we had got hundreds of similarly affected investors signed up to us, and we wielded these people into a fighting force, and relentlessly continued our investigations, until we finally turned the tide on this man and his companies.( Hence the content of the Sunday Times article).

The thing is, most people, when faced with similar circumstances, would have crumbled, rolled over, and played dead. We didn’t. We used all of our mental strength we had gained from our coaching and mentoring in techniques like NLP, and instead of crying ‘Woe is me!’, we learnt new entrepreneurial skills, looked for other ways of making and investing money, and with the demise of the defamation case, have begun our bounce back to financial freedom.

The point is, we have all lost our money, our savings, our inheritances, and instead of crying over spilt milk, we must grasp the opportunity to look for our own inner strengths, meet up with other people with a like desire to get going again, and rebuild our lives.

Don’t tell me you are too old! At 62 I am not likely to get another Corporate job again, so I must build on my entrepreneurial skills, and get going again. I am actually doing that by having learnt how to trade the Forex market quite successfully. Even if some of you have to go bankrupt in the interim – that is not such a slur as it used to be. Get shot of your debt burden if you have to, and walk tall again…
