150 years for fraud? Bernard Madoff?
What is it with American sentencing? The man is probably not going to live for another ten years. He didn't kill anyone. Do you even get 150 years for killing anyone? All the victims are giving their sob stories, but at the end of the day, when you invest money there is still a chance you can lose it all anyway. It was their own greed for his abnormal returns that lost them their money and not fraud.
Not just this case but why are American sentences so hard anyway? Do they actually believe someone is going to live, say, 150 years? In the UK the most someone gets is around 35 years and that is for a gun murder. It is easy for someone to say that if you commit a crime then they couldn't care less if you spend the rest of your life behind bars. At the end of the day though, anyone of us is capable of committing a crime aren't they? So what if the life of one of those people takes a dramatic turn and they themselves turn to crime. Anyone one of us is capable of murder even. I personally think the time should match the crime. We all have human rights, no matter what we have done.
